Types of Events
Kickoff
In 2023/24, our kickoff will be hosted virtually.
Kickoff is the day that FIRST HQ releases a live video stream of the new season challenge. It is typically on the first Saturday in September (in 2023, that is September 9th.
Here in South Florida, we host an in-person kickoff.
At this event:
teams can volunteer to facilitate workshops to share their knowledge with others
we watch the live stream of the new challenge
teams can walk around and interact with a real field
teams can ask questions of our head referee
Build/Practice/Scrimmage
In 2023/24, our events will be in person.

Here in South Florida, we host a build/practice/scrimmage day for teams. This event is typically in October.
At this event:
teams can come together to practice on a real field
teams can ask each other for assistance
work on your robot
This event is also used to train volunteers for the season.
League Tournament #1
In 2023/24, our events will be in person.

Teams are encouraged to attend as many qualifiers as possible in order to gain more experience and improve. We host three throughout the season. The first league qualifier is typically in November.
At these events:
teams must pass a robot and field inspection
teams play 10+ matches
optional engineering portfolio review
League Tournament #2

South Florida League Championship
In 2023/24, our events will be in person.

All teams are invited to compete at the League Championship. This is typically a two day event. On Friday, teams can come set up their pit and a few will go through judging on Friday evening. The remaining teams will be judged on Saturday and matches will be played on Saturday. The League Championship is typically in February.
At this event:
teams must pass a robot and field inspection
teams play 10+ matches
there are elimination rounds to determine the teams that will advance
judging of all team's engineering portfolios and team attributes
judging of the Dean's List nominees and teams will occur
Florida State Championship
In 2023/24, our events will be in person.
Teams that earn an advancing placement will have the opportunity to compete at the Florida State Championship in the Orlando area. This is typically held in late February. Teams from our league will compete against others from across the state for a chance to move on to the World Championship in Houston.
This is typically a two day event. On Friday, teams can come set up their pit and a few will go through judging on Friday evening. The remaining teams will be judged on Saturday and matches will be played on Saturday.

teams play 10+ matches
there are elimination matches
judging of all team's engineering portfolios and team attributes
judging of the Dean's List nominees and teams will occur
Houston World Championship
Only a handful of teams will be selected to compete at the Houston World Championship from our State Championship. This is typically held in late April. This is typically a four day event.
At this event:
teams must pass a robot and field inspection
teams play 10+ matches
there are elimination rounds to determine the teams that will advance
judging of all team's engineering portfolios and team attributes
judging of the Dean's List nominees and teams will occur
